The Atelier des Lumières, in the heart of the 11th arrondissement of Paris, is a place with a soul. The capital’s first digital art museum is housed in a former foundry dating from the first half of the 19th century, a building evocative of the industrial Paris described in the works of Hugo and Zola. Today, its vast spaces are used for the digital projection of artistic works. To the accompaniment of carefully chosen music, Van Gogh's masterpieces are projected onto the walls, floors and ceilings, playing on the effects of scale and perspective. It feels like you are stepping inside them.
A tour at your own pace
The Atelier des Lumières is not about providing a scholarly analysis of the works but a way to make you experience the brushstrokes of the artist, to live the colours, and feel the emotions embodied in the compositions. From famous works like Starry Night and Sunflowers to lesser-known ones, the genius of the tormented artist enfolds the visitor. There is no imposed path, no timing; you explore at your own pace.
