The location of the Hotel Les Deux Girafes in the 11th arrondissement was not chosen at random. The Faubourg district, a former agricultural suburb, was gradually integrated into the city of Paris without losing any of its creativity, rebellious spirit and conviviality. That’s why it’s our hotel’s natural home, and as you walk through the streets, you’ll discover its wonders.
Shows and artistic traditions
The Cirque d’Hiver (Winter Circus) was built during the Second Empire. Designed by the architect of the Gare du Nord, Jacques-Ignace Hittorff, this superb building dedicated to the circus arts embodies a style of architecture that was immensely popular in the second half of the 19th century. Whether you attend a Cirque Bouglione show or opt for a guided tour, you’ll discover the sumptuous sets, sculptures and decorations created by the likes of Barrias, Pradier, Bosio and Gosse. For a completely different experience, head to the Maison des Métallos. This former factory, which has become a cultural centre, perpetuates the artistic and artisan traditions of the district. Many events, including exhibitions and concerts, take place there.
A timeless place
Extend your stroll to the Père-Lachaise Cemetery. Far from being gloomy, this verdant oasis is imbued with beauty and tranquillity. Dozens of celebrities are interred here, and many people come to pay their respects at the last resting places of Jim Morrisson, Edith Piaf and Alain Bashung. Others will gather in front of the graves of Jean-Pierre Bacri, Honoré de Balzac, Molière and Chopin. The history of France unfolds before your eyes, from simple tombstones to sumptuous mausoleums. You can even take a guided tour. Anecdotes and behind-the-scenes revelations make the place even more fascinating.
Wander at whim or plan your route through the neighbourhood of the Hotel Les Deux Girafes. The quarter’s warm and friendly atmosphere can be felt everywhere, from the café terraces to the cultural landmarks and entertainment venues.
